Sound Experiement

For inquiry room 8 is learning about energy. There are loads of different types of energy. Sound is one of them. On Tuesday we did a sound experiment with balloons.

Firstly we held a balloon (not blown up) up to our ear and tapped it to see if it made a sound.

Secondly we made a hypothesis about what the blown up balloon would do.

Thirdly we blew the balloons up and we put them up to our ears and tapped them and spoke through them to see what happened. Some people put two balloons together to see if they could still hear the sound.

After that we thought about what we had learnt from the experiment and what questions we still had.

After that we did loads of mini experiments in one. We put a balloon on each side of our head and talked through them to see if we could hear the voice of the other person on the other side.We also scrapped the balloons with the tips of our fingers and found that it caused vibrations in the balloons which made a noise. Also, around the end we put all our balloons together to see if we could here one end to another.

The balloon Experiment was Awesome! The reason that when you tap the full balloon makes more sound then tapping a empty balloon is because in a full balloon it has lot of air to make the sound bounce around. In an empty balloon, There is not enough air. I appreciate that your post can make people be entertained. I wonder what other sounds a balloon can make?
