Probability

We have started learning about probability this week. We learnt that probability is the chance or likelihood of something happening.

We came up with this list of vocabulary that we might use when we are talking about probability.

We also conducted 2 experiments.

For one of them, we were given a pack of cards like the picture below. We drew one card from the pack and recorded it on a tally chart. We did this 20 times.

Before we started we made predictions about what we thought would happen using probability, such as, "I think 5 will be picked the most because there are more than any other card."

For the other experiment we had a bag of lollies and we recorded how many of each colour there were. We then made predictions about which colour we would pick out and made statements such as "it is more likely I will get a yellow one than a red one because there are more yellow lollies."

One thing we found interesting was that as we took more lollies out the probability changed as the left over colours changed.

Sadly, we forgot to take pictures during that experiment!

Both of the experiments were AWESOME! Those lollies were sweet as.
And the card experiment... It was really cool. Somehow we keep picking up lots of A's when there was only one A. I use probability lots in my life.
I wonder if it will rain tomorrow? There is a 60% chance of that.
